Pharmacist Jobs Search Tips

With a national shortage of both pharmacists and pharmacy staff, your online search should pull up an extensive list of possible pharmacy jobs. Narrowing down the list into a more manageable size will be the challenge. Here are some tips for finding the right pharmacy job for your unique needs and lifestyle.

Outline your career goals. If you haven't already, take some time to think about your short- and long-term goals for the future. Do you want to own an independent pharmacy or work for a retail chain? Would working in a hospital suit your lifestyle? Knowing where you want to end up several years down the road will help you decide what kinds of pharmacy jobs to choose now.

Consider relocating. If you're not having much luck finding the right type of pharmacy job in your area, broaden your search criteria by ten more miles and see what comes up (if you're willing to have a longer commute). If you live in a rural or suburban area and don't want to work for a chain, consider moving closer to a large city where there more pharmacy employment options.

Look into a different specialty. Maybe your career would benefit from a change. You might want to consider performing research for pharmaceutical manufacturers, developing and testing new drugs. You might find a career in marketing and sales, teaching clients about the drugs they purchase from your company. Software development is a big area right now, as some pharmacists are taking their knowledge into the technology industry.
